Michael Systemically Dismantled Our Mother's Legacy After Her Death

To know my mother is to know a mother and grandmother's love. Her children and grandchildren were everything to her. She always made it clear to me she would have tossed Michael Saltzburg to the curb if she didn't trust him to treat all of her children equally.

She was so proud to be a grandma and she loved all of her children equally. She was always careful to make clear to us that she wanted everything to be fair.

Of course Michael Saltzburg had never treated my older brother Chris and I anything like his own biological children, our half siblings Mark and Lauren, but our mother's love and presence in our lives more than made up for it. She naively trusted him to carry out their joint estate plan after her death, which was written and signed. She trusted her legacy of prioritizing family first would be carried out.  We all trusted Michael.

Yet after our mother's death, our adoptive father Michael Saltzburg and our siblings' sinister intentions gradually became painfully clear. He'd always been obsessed with his imagined superiority of his genes, but we thought it was a joke. We never guessed his sick plan to pit his biological children and grandchildren against his adopted children and grandchildren.

My brother Chris and I welcomed our much younger half-siblings, Mark and Lauren Saltzburg. In some ways, it was hard on us because our mother was so overwhelmed and exhausted, but we genuinely them. Chris was turning 15 and I was 10 when Mark was born. We did a lot of childcare and were very involved as a family.

Our mother was the epicenter of our much larger extended family, so it was always fun being part of big family trips, gatherings, vacations and holidays. I always loved being part of a big family. I don't think anyone who knew our family, least of all my mom, ever would have suspected what was to come.

There was zero time to even grieve my mother's tragic death before the manipulations had started. First, my younger brother Mark referred to his son Trey Saltzburg as "the only real Saltzburg grandchild" on the day my mother was buried - in front of my children. My children were very close to "Nana Wendy" and were devastated by her death. They came to me, understandably hurt, about Mark's comments, but I swept it under the rug to avoid causing any unnecessary drama. Little did I realize it was just foreshadowing what was soon to come. 

My mother had left some money to each of us, but I found out later Chris was never informed of her will or given his money. Michael Saltzburg and my brother Mark conspired to keep him in the dark and literally certified to the Pennsylvania court that he had been given a copy of the will and his inheritance. Later, after I found this out, I encouraged Chris to get an attorney and file a lawsuit, which he did, successfully.

This happened immediately after our mother's death so it's clear now that Michael Saltzburg never had any intention of following the joint estate plan our mother set up with him. He purposely had deceived her so she wouldn't put her estate into an irrevocable trust. It was a joint trust that legally allowed Michael to change it as soon as she died, which he did.

My brother Chris and I, along with our children, were totally in the dark. Only later, we found out about Michael Saltzburg cheating on our mother with a long time girlfriend sugar baby, Kelly, including the entire time she was dying.

We genuinely loved him and spent extra time with him after our mom died; my kids and I traveled across the country four to five times a year to spend holidays and school breaks with him.  Chris lived near by and regularly visited with him on the weekends.

It really didn't take long to see what was going on. Michael Saltzburg poured literally millions of dollars into helping our younger siblings, Mark and Lauren, set up businesses while living luxurious lifestyles. Personally, I never asked him for money - in my life - but when I inquired about the things he had offered to pay for, like my son's summer camp, he was cold and rude. Things went from loving, happy family, to frosty and divisive very quickly after Mom died. Michael ignored us, canceled trips last minute, and generally became rude and unwelcoming, including to my children.

Michael was increasingly cold and indifferent to Chris and I along with our children, although we clung onto the family as long as we could. Our half-siblings Mark and Lauren Saltzburg pushed for personal financial gain and used their favored positions with him to encourage his inexplicable animosity towards Chris and I. I have had the direct misfortune to see text messages and hear these conversations many times.
